Our studio in English Village has exposed brick walls and a soaring ceiling which the studio an intimate and relaxing ambiance. We provide you with hand weights, mats, and exercise balls to use during your class.
Originally a Grand Jeté client, Caitlin joined our team of instructors in 2012. At the age of 8, Caitlin began studying classical ballet at CDF in Birmingham. She continued her training with Alabama Dance Academy, Alabama Dance Theater, and Alabama Ballet School. Caitlin is a graduate of Auburn University where she earned her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. You’ll find her instructing evening or weekend classes, as she spends most of her days working as a full-time Speech-Language Pathologist with nursing home, rehab, and acute care patients.In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends, family, and her Great Dane Tucker.
Ellyn has been teaching fitness in the Birmingham area since 1998. She has taught dance fitness choreography for over 15 years, a core/body toning class at Samford University since 2013 and barre at Grand Jeté since early 2016 after attending as a client. She is a graduate of Samford University and also a Registered Dietitian. When not working or teaching classes, Ellyn can be found cooking, reading, and taking walks through the neighborhood. She lives in Forest Park with her husband and two children.
Jenna, part of the original Grand Jeté Team, began instructing when we opened in 2011. She can be found greeting clients and teaching evening and weekend classes. Jenna has a passion for healthy living, focusing on mind and body. She attended Samford University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. She currently works as a durable medical equipment coordinator for a group of orthopedic surgeons. Jenna lives in Birmingham with her husband Adam and their dog, Schatzi.
Katie began working at Grand Jeté in 2011, and can be found teaching evening and weekend classes. Katie has more than 10 years of intense dance training at such institutions as American Ballet Theater, Alabama School of Fine Arts, Goucher College, DanceAspen and also professional performing experience with the Alabama Ballet. She attended Goucher College and then earned her Masters in Business Administration from UAB. After spending for a number of years in retail merchandise planning, Katie now works at Alabama School of Fine Arts. Katie lives in Birmingham and is the proud mother of two.
Before starting her instruction at Grand Jeté in December of 2011, Laura was one of our first clients. She began dancing as a child at Mobile Ballet School, was selected to the Mobile Ballet Junior Company, and performed in various classical ballets such as The Nutcracker. In high school Laura was a member of her school’s dance team and a cheerleader. Laura graduated magna cum laude from The University of Alabama in May, 2004 with a major in Finance and a minor in Economics. After college Laura’s love of dance and fitness transitioned into strength training and running, completing three half marathons. She now lives in Mountain Brook with her husband Clarence James.
Sarah, a long-time client, started working at Grand Jeté in 2014. She began classical ballet lessons at the age of seven at Birmingham Ballet Academy and continued dancing there through her senior year of high school. Sarah is a recent graduate of the University of Virginia with a major in Biology. She discovered barre fitness while attending UVA and enjoys its many similarities to ballet. In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time with friends and family, running, volunteering, and traveling.
Vivian joined the Grand Jeté team as in instructor in 2013. She studied both ballet and modern dance at Birmingham Ballet Academy and Children’s Dance Foundation. She continued her ballet training at the University of Alabama under the direction of Rita Snyder for one year before deciding to major in English Composition and Literature, and she graduated in 2013. In addition to teaching and taking barre, she loves taking yoga.
Originally a loyal Grand Jeté client for several years, Leslie joined the instructor team in 2016. Some of Leslie’s earliest memories involve dance and it has remained an integral part of her life ever since. Leslie grew up focusing primarily on classical ballet. Her passion for dance took her to NYC to study during some of her high school summers and she continued to dance in college at Samford University where she was on the dance team. Ballet en pointe was also her talent when she competed in the Miss America system as Miss Samford University and Miss Tombigbee.
After graduating with an honors degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, Leslie channeled her love of dance into teaching dance fitness classes while working in marketing and public relations by day. Leslie is honored and excited to be part of the Grand Jeté team.
Mary Hope Garmon
A native of Marietta, Georgia, Mary Hope grew up studying ballet, jazz, and modern dance. She continued her dance education at Birmingham-Southern College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and a minor in Dance. Mary Hope began taking Grand Jete in 2015 and after taking her first class she knew she had finally found a type of exercise she could really enjoy and stick with. She was obsessed! She is so excited to meet all of Grand Jete’s new clients, and she is ready to shake with everyone in English Village!
